The challenge

The customer had an old-style rolling mill, which was lubricated by manually applying grease.

This technology causes multiple operational problems: imprecise lubrication, excessive grease consumption, poor cooling of critical components, and accumulation of residue in the installation.

In addition, maintenance tasks were frequent, costly and posed safety risks to personnel due to dirty and slippery environments. All of this had a direct impact on equipment availability, process reliability and operating costs.

The solution

Nortek carried out a comprehensive analysis of the rolling mill, consisting of 18 boxes. Working conditions, lubrication points and actual process requirements were evaluated. Based on this study, an air-oil lubrication system was designed and implemented, specifically adapted to older technology equipment.

The solution made it possible to replace grease with precise, controlled lubrication, ensuring the exact amount of oil was supplied to each critical point. Nortek took charge of the entire project: engineering, component selection, system manufacturing, installation and commissioning, ensuring a safe transition without affecting production.

The result

Thanks to Nortek’s air-oil system, the customer achieved much more precise and efficient lubrication, significantly improving component cooling and extending their service life. The installation became cleaner and safer, reducing occupational hazards and simplifying maintenance tasks.

Lubricant consumption was significantly reduced and the reliability of the rolling mill increased, minimising unplanned stoppages.

In addition, the customer recovered the investment in one year, confirming that the lubrication upgrade was a strategic decision from both a technical and economic standpoint.
