Increased presence of NORTEK lubrication systems at the REPSOL sites

Updated 20th April 2018

NORTEK has been awarded two separate orders for API systems destined for REPSOL ChemicalsTarragona Industrial Complex, and more specifically the refurbishment of a propylene turbine, focused on increasing energy efficiency at the plant. Designing and manufacturing lubrication systems and seal plans compliant with the demanding API regulations —the petrochemical market standard— is one of NORTEK’s specialties, and has been part of our catalog of services since 1983.

The first piece of equipment will be provided to Flowserve; it will be used to lubricate and cool a boiler feedwater pump and auxiliary equipment. The lube system is being designed for a flow of 90 lpm, under ISO regulation 10438 (API-614, Ch. 3).

The second order, in collaboration with Sacyr Fluor, consists of renovating the turbine and compressor lubrication system (according to API-614 Ch. 2) currently in operation. It will be designed for a flow rate of 1,160 lpm with two pumps, one powered by electric motor and one by steam turbine. The complexity of this project lies in the need to (i) optimize the dimensions in order to be able to position the equipment within the limited space and (b) be able to install it during stoppage in the shortest possible time and with the least impact in terms of piping modification. We will therefore opt for a modular design.

In 2008, NORTEK successfully supplied all lubrication systems for expansion of REPSOL’s Cartagena Industrial Complex.

These new orders will result in greater presence of our equipment in REPSOL plants; over recent decades, we have built an important technical and commercial relationship with this company. One of the highlights was the supply, by NORTEK, of all lubrication systems for the expansion plan of the Cartagena Industrial Complex driven by REPSOL at the beginning of this century. This project represented, globally, what is still today the largest ever industrial investment in Spain.
