Nortek improves its technology: our new horizontal honing machine

At Nortek, we seek to be at the forefront of the industry in terms of technology and production capacity. Our factory of more than 10,000m2 in Pinseque is the heart of our operations, innovation and continuous improvement of the facilities is therefore an obligation to continue offering accurate and quality solutions to our customers.

With this in mind, we have made a quality leap in the production plant with the acquisition of the Sunnen SH 2000 horizontal lapping machine. Read the article to learn more about its features and how this machine contributes to Nortek’s production process.

What is a horizontal Honing machine?

The lapping machine is used in the honing of holes. This process consists of removing internal surface imperfections in the holes of certain industrial parts. The bores that need this precision grinding are found in many of the components that make up industrial lubrication systems.

The machine must be controlled by a technician specialized in this process, as it is not a simple task.

The Sunnen SH 2000 honing machine

In this case, we have chosen to purchase a Suntec honing machine. The Sunnen SH 2000 model is a semi-automatic machine, with up to six times the speed of an internal grinding machine.

Its ease of use and state-of-the-art technology greatly improve on previous models, reducing human intervention in the process and therefore the probability of error. In addition, this model incorporates a parameter manipulation panel from which all the variables surrounding the honing process are controlled, allowing a simpler and more precise use.

What does Nortek use the honing machine for?

At Nortek, we cover the entire process of creating a number of different lubrication systems. Each has its own characteristics and qualities, but many of them share a number of parts that are commonly repeated between systems. Among them, we find the distributors and dispensers. These parts are responsible for distributing the lubricant from the system to the various lubrication points.

The manufacture of these parts requires precision to the micron in their bores, since the internal pistons require maximum adjustment in order to avoid leaks and inaccuracies in lubricant distribution. This is where the lapping process comes into play. The machine polishes these surfaces, thus eliminating imperfections that prevent precise and quality dispensing.

At Nortek, we believe that precision in each of our processes is essential to offer high quality solutions that meet our customers’ most demanding expectations. The incorporation of the new horizontal lapping machine is a clear example of our commitment to continuous improvement, as it allows us to achieve impeccable finishes and guarantee products with millimetric precision. This constant search for perfection is what defines us as a company, ensuring that every solution we offer is backed by the highest quality standards.
